Palm Sunday: Sacred Music and Liturgical Dance!

The CSO Gospel Choir will present a special Palm Sunday concert on March 28, 5:00pm, at Citadel Square Baptist Church in downtown Charleston. This concert will highlight a beautiful array of classical and gospel music associated with the Christian Lenten Season and, in particular, Palm Sunday.

The choir has programmed a cross section of choral styles in selections from the traditional Hallelujah Chorus from The Messiah, to the rhythmic a cappella spiritual, Rockin’ Jerusalem, to the beautifully haunting, Agnus Dei (Lamb of God), to the foot-stomping He Reigns Forever.

The evening will also feature liturgical dance (sacred dance) to be presented by two local downtown Charleston churches, well known across the State of SC for their dance ministries — The Ebenezer AME Church and the Centenary United Methodist Church.

Tickets are $10 at the Gaillard box office, one hour before the performance at the Citadel Square Baptist Church, or from a choir member.

Catch Us at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival

The CSO Gospel Choir will present African American Sacred Songs III as part of the Piccolo Spoleto festival on May 28th and May 29th at St. Matthews Church in downtown Charleston.

We are excited to present a wide variety of musical styles within one program. The focus of the program will be the contribution and impact of African American Music upon the various styles of sacred music.

This eclectic concert will engage music from several genres – blues, classical, spirituals, and of course traditional and contemporary gospel music. The musical program will feature traditional classical selections from Mozart and Handel, traditional spirituals, selections from Duke Ellington’s Sacred Songs, and of course, contemporary gospel music from Timothy Wright, Kirk Franklin, and other gospel greats.

Tickets will be made available at the Gaillard box office and Ticketmaster outlets.
